GLOBAL GREENGRANTS FUND SMALL GRANTS PROGRAM ANNOUNCES NEXT CALL FOR PROJECT APPLICATIONS IN CENTRAL ASIA Application deadline October 2, 2023 (until 24:00, Almaty time)

The program accepts applications from public environmental organizations (NGOs) and initiative groups with the active participation of women, youth, people with disabilities and traditional communities, whose activities are aimed at solving specific environmental problems at the local, national and regional levels.

The program aims to support initiatives on the following priority topics :

  • Public participation in solving environmental problems and environmental justice;
  • Ensuring environmental safety;
  • Adaptation to climate change;
  • Transition to sustainable and renewable energy sources;
  • Preservation and rational use of land, water, forest and other natural resources;
  • Conservation of biodiversity;
  • Solving transboundary environmental problems;
  • Preservation of traditional ecological knowledge and traditional way of life in harmony with nature;
  • Participation of members of the public in international environmental conferences and meetings (travel grants).

The program is aimed at supporting specific actions to protect public environmental interests : information and advocacy campaigns: legal forms of protection; public monitoring and damage assessment; participation in the EIA procedure and environmental expertise; support for environmentally vulnerable communities, etc.

 

Geographic coverage:  Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

 

Budget:  Grant size can range from $500 to $15,000.

Three types of grants are being considered : country grants up to $7,000, regional grants up to $15,000, and travel grants up to $4,000.

The application for a regional grant should be aimed at solving regional, transboundary environmental problems and developing ecological networks in Central Asia with the participation of other partner organizations from the countries of the region and a detailed justification of financial costs. Funding for regional and travel grants is limited.

 

Restrictions

The program does not accept applications from government agencies, as well as legal entities created with the assistance of the state, and small businesses pursuing only commercial interest.

The annual budget of the applicant organization must not exceed $100,000.

Applications from organizations and individuals who have previously received funds from the program and the GGF are possible only after the completion of the previous project and the submission of reports.

The program does not finance the purchase of real estate, vehicles and expensive equipment.

Projects with a duration of no more than one year are accepted for consideration.

 

Application Process

To apply, please complete and submit electronically the appropriate form in Russian (for a project or a travel grant). Send the completed form to the email address smallgrant.ca@gmail.com .

 

The program reserves the right to invite the applicant to make changes or additions to the project.

If the project submitted for consideration has received approval from another fund, then the applicant is obliged to report this to the program. In this case, the project will either be withdrawn from consideration or strengthened by the program.

In the first half of September, an online presentation of the program and a question-answer session will take place. The date and time of the meeting will be announced later.

Project applications submitted within the specified period will be considered by the Program Council. The decision on these projects will be sent to the applicants by November 10, 2023 .

A grant agreement will be signed with the winners of the competition and funds in US dollars will be transferred by December 8, 2023.

Applications that do not meet the conditions of the competition are not considered, and those that do not pass the competitive selection are not reviewed.
