#EducationFirst for Sustainable Development: United Nations Secretary-General's Global Education First Initiative (GEFI) High-Level Event

On Saturday 26 September, the United Nations Secretary General’s Global Education First Initiative (GEFI) will hold a high level event that celebrates the achievements of GEFI and its partners in advancing the global education agenda. The event, "#EducationFirst for Sustainable Development", will provide a platform for partners, Champion Countries and Youth Advocates to meet at the UN headquarters in New York during the High Level Summit for the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda.

The Role of Global Citizenship Education in Fostering Youth Peacebuilders

The UN Secretary General’s Global Education First Initiative (GEFI) is pleased to announce a two-day seminar on the role of Global Citizenship Education (GCED) in preventing and mitigating youth violence, and fostering youth as peacebuilders. It will take place from 10-11 September 2015 at the UN.

National Indigenous Youth Workshop on Education Advocacy and Global Citizenship Education

This workshop is organised by the Asia South Pacific Association for Basic and Adult Education (ASPBAE) and supported by the UN Secretary General's Global Education First Initiative. This workshop will bring together Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people to share their perspective, experiences and ideas on contemporary education issues occurring at the national and international level. A main focus of this workshop will be to discuss and develop strategies to advocate the views of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander youth on education.

Capacity Building Workshop on Global Citizenship Education for Latin America and the Caribbean The principle objectives of the Regional Orientation and Capacity Building Workshop on Global Citizenship Education for Latin America and the Caribbean are to develop greater knowledge on Global Citizenship Education and help to integrate it into the education systems of the region. The workshop will take place in Santiago, Chile on 1-3 September.

Global Citizenship Education National Youth Training in Pakistan

The UN Secretary General’s Global Education First Initiative (GEFI) is pleased to be working with Complete Human Resource Solutions (CHRS) and GEFI Youth Advocacy Group member Anusheh Bakht Aziz to deliver a three day training on Global Citizenship Education for youth leaders in Pakistan from 11th-13th September, 2015. Mongolia Youth Training of Trainers (TOT) Program

In 2014, stemming from requests made by Mongolian youth, 16 selected young women and men from four aimags in Mongolia (Bulgan, Darkhan, Orkhon, and Selenge) benefited from a training program to strengthen capacities for youth transition to adulthood. From 17 to 21 August 2015, a new batch of 20 future Youth Peer Trainers from 10 different aimags in Mongolia will receive training as part of the Mongolia Youth Training of Trainers (TOT) Program.

The event entitled "Global Citizenship Education for a Just, Peaceful, Inclusive, and Sustainable world: A Conceptual Framework and its Application in the Field" is co-organized with the Permanent Missions of France, Nigeria, Qatar, Republic of Korea, and the United States in support of the Secretary-General’s Global Education First Initiative (GEFI).

Global Citizenship Education for West African countries

UNESCO Dakar, in collaboration with UNESCO Abuja and UNESCO Headquarters, is organizing a capacity-building workshop on “Global Citizenship Education for West African countries” on 7-9 July 2015 in Dakar, Senegal. The workshop aims to support countries of the Economic Community of Western African States (ECOWAS) to integrate Global Citizenship Education (GCED) in their education systems.

As part of its longstanding commitment to promote up-to-date, high-quality research and good practice and policy in the field of curriculum and learning, UNESCO International Bureau of Education (IBE) is holding a public event on 15 June 2015, which will bring together high-level officials and prominent scholars to discuss the challenges and prospects of countering intolerance and discrimination through education. The event will also launch a new book published by IBE and based on research from countries that are still dealing with the legacy of the Holocaust.
