5th Meeting of the UNESCO Latin American Network for Education on the Holocaust and Genocide

Guatemala City will host the fifth meeting of the UNESCO Latin American Network for Education on the Holocaust and Genocide, which will bring together high-ranking representatives of the ministries of education of Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

 

The meeting will include the participation of focal points that represent the ministries of education that participate in the network. The other activities will feature the presence of focal points, experts and teacher trainers from the region. They will provide an opportunity to review the ongoing initiatives adopted by the ministries and civil society organizations and to promote regional cooperation on matters related to education on the history of human rights violations in Latin America.

 

The focal points meeting will be followed by a teacher training workshop entitled Holocaust Education in Latin America: Existing Tools, Challenges and Strategies on May 29, 2018. This workshop consists of a subregional activity that brings together trainers and teachers from several countries of Central America such as Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Panama.

 

These activities will involve organizations working in cooperation with UNESCO, such as the Shoah Foundation of the University of Southern California and its UNESCO Chair on Genocide Education, Facing History and Ourselves, and Yad Vashem. The World Holocaust Remembrance Center.
